PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – “Wings Of Wonder: West Virginia Birds of Prey,” the interactive, award winning program by Three Rivers Avian Center, will be at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011. The program features live birds of prey including owls, hawks, a peregrine falcon and a young bald eagle.
“Island visitors and the public are invited to come see these birds up close, get to know about their habitats, and collect tips about what you can do to help wild birds in your area,” according to Pam Salisbury, spokeswoman at Blennerhassett Island.
The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. near the Brick Shelter and will last about one hour with questions and answers following. There is no charge to attend the raptor program.
Blennerhassett Island, best known for its reconstructed Blennerhassett Mansion, is located on the Ohio River near Parkersburg. The park is accessed by the Island Belle Sternwheeler, which departs from Civitan Park in Belpre, Ohio. The sternwheeler ride cost is $8 for adults and $7 for children 3-12. Tickets are sold at two locations: at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History in Parkersburg, or at the Island ticket booth on Blennerhassett Island. For park information, call 304-420-4800.
