SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Films made about two West Virginia State Parks are finalists in a national filmmaker competition, and fans of those parks are invited to vote for a winner. “Prickett's Fort State Park” by Shannon Tinnell and “Blackwater Falls State Park” by Nora Sheridan are two of 19 finalists in the America’s State Parks Filmmaker Challenge. Sponsored by Sony Creative Software, the contest was designed to promote awareness of the value of America’s state park system. All finalist videos can be viewed at www.americasstateparks.org/filmmaker.

Anyone can vote for a finalist from Sept. 10 through Nov. 1, 2011. The finalist having the two highest overall votes will be Grand Prize Winners, the third and fourth highest vote getters receive honorable mention. Vote by visiting www.americasstateparks.org/filmmaker.

“To have two of West Virginia’s state parks in the final 19 is gratifying,” said Ken Caplinger, chief of West Virginia’s state parks. “The Prickett’s Fort and the Blackwater Falls videos are outstanding and I urge everyone to visit the website and vote for a West Virginia entry.”

The finalists were selected by the Contest Judges based on the following criteria: Creative Elements (Cinematography, Editing, Soundtrack, Effective use of Special Effects, and Film Length), and Technical Elements (Film concept, Originality, Coherence, and Overall Enjoyment) (collectively, the "Contest Criteria").
